 Why Intermediate 2 Computing?

This course is designed to provide a progression for knowledge and understanding and practical skills achieved at Standard Grade (General level) Computing.

 Course Outline

The course consists of 3 units.  These units have the same titles as those in the Higher course, but are covered in less depth.

The units are:

 Computer Systems

This unit develops an understanding of how computers work.

 Software Development

This unit develops knowledge of the software development process, and also develops skills in using a high level language.

 Computer Networking

This unit is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of the principles of networking, and the practical skills related to this.

 Assessment

Each unit has nationally produced assessment questions, and practical tasks.  School produced tests also assess candidates’ progress.

A nationally produced coursework task contributes 30% to the overall grade.  The external exam at the end of the course contributes 70%.

 Progression

Candidates who achieve a good grade at Intermediate 2 may consider progressing to the Higher Computing course.

 Careers

There are many different careers in the Computing industry - e.g.  software, networks, systems security, interactive media design, multimedia systems.
